A decade of conversation. Co-founders honored. A path forward.

Dan and Nancy Nicewonger started A Place in the Conversation in 2014. The work they built together continues today.

Honoring Dan's legacy · 2014 to present

In early 2024, Dan Nicewonger passed on after a decade with cancer. Dan and Nancy had co-founded A Place in the Conversation in 2014, and the conversation they built together, about being heard, listening well, and growing as a community, continues today.

In early 2024, Dan Nicewonger passed on to his eternal home after his almost decade-long battle with cancer. Dan and Nancy had co-founded A Place in the Conversation in 2014, and we are committed to continuing the work they built together, honoring a shared vision of creating spaces for meaningful dialogue, healing, and transformation.

APITC is dedicated to helping facilitate the restoration of relationships, believing that true transformation begins when each person finds their place in the conversation. It's a place where voices can be heard, stories shared, and understanding deepened, especially when it comes to our relationship with God.

As Psalm 42 speaks of a spiritual longing that meets the chaos and pain of this world, verse 7 resonates deeply: “Deep calls to deep.” We see this as the fullness of God reaching out to the fullness within us, inviting us to connect more profoundly with ourselves and with Him.

At APITC, we seek to help people find and express their true voice, a voice that speaks the full truth of their experiences and journeys. We invite you to join us in this mission, honoring Dan's legacy and carrying forward the work of transformation.

A note from our Lead Facilitator

Carrying forward the work we built together, in a new season, with the same care.

When Dan and I co-founded A Place in the Conversation in 2014, we shared one conviction: real transformation begins where each person feels finally heard. That belief shaped a decade of work with congregations, caregivers, and quiet rooms full of hard questions.

I'm carrying that forward. The tools haven't changed, patient listening, honest conversation, scripture that meets us where we actually are. The grief is real, and so is the invitation: there is still a place for you here.

Mission · Vision · Values

What keeps us in the room.

Mission
Be heard.

To help people discover a place in the conversation where they can be heard, listen to others, and grow as individuals and community.

Vision
Whole voices.

Congregations and communities where each person can speak the full truth of their experience, and find God already there in it.

Values
Patience.

We trust the slow work. We don't rush people toward closure they haven't found. We meet you where you actually are.

Want to talk to us about your church or community?

We start every engagement with a conversation. No deck, no pitch, just listening.
